The Problem:
Super Motor Yacht Maria, a 220-foot class vessel, classed by Lloyd’s Register, required routine preventive maintenance to maintain compliance with class regulations and ensure peak performance. Simultaneously, restoration efforts were underway in other areas of the yacht, presenting a unique opportunity to streamline maintenance tasks and minimize downtime.
Day 1:
• Load bank testing, beginning with running cables from docked load bank, into midship, to generator paralleling system.
• Cut and isolated shore power from generator power grid to endure connection.
Day 2:
• Executed load bank tests on all three generators in the engineering room to simulate varying load conditions and measure performance.
• Removed cam tails from bus access points to ensure proper connections back to bus and put back together.
•Disconnected load bank.
Results
The load bank testing process validated the performance and reliability of all three generators, confirming their readiness to handle operational demands. Preventive measures ensured that M/Y Maria remained compliant with requirements for class vessels while reducing the risk of mechanical failure during future voyages.
